The production version should be of a higher quality build.
The Gigafactory was officially opened by Tesla in Texas on April 7, 2022 in a celebration called the Cyber Rodeo. The new huge factory, which is home to the electric automaker, measures 338 million square footage and is located in Austin.
Elon Musk was there along with a preview for the upcoming Tesla Cybertruck. It was a prototype that had been demonstrated on stage. Some people were able get close up shots of the pickup in this YouTube video by Cyber Owners. The Cybertruck prototype is quite battered and crammed with imperfections as you can see in the walkaround video. You can see that there are a lot of panel gaps. There are also glued-on sections missing from the panels and parts damaged like the exterior mirrors.
This Tesla Cybertruck prototype is still in production so it’s not surprising to see some imperfections. The parts may have been assembled manually, which could explain some of the mistakes. We have seen prototypes of other brands and they are often different from production versions in terms build quality. However, we expect the production version will have a better build quality than that shown in the video.
Musk claims that Texas’s Tesla Gigafactory can produce a million cars per year once it is fully operational. The Tesla Model J would make up half of the total, as well as the batteries used in Tesla cars. This plant will produce the Cybertruck and it will go on sale in 2023. A “massive wave” of new products will be arriving in 2023, apart from the Cybertruck. Musk did not reveal the names of these products, but reports indicate that they include the second-generation Roadster as well as the Semi.
