Supercharged Ford F-150 Surprises GT500 Camaro ZL1 at Drag Strip

The racing action is close door-to-door with all three cars supercharged.

We love sleepers and this Ford F-150 black is one of our favorites. Although the truck’s back has a set fat drag radials, it is a pickup truck that can be driven in a mere 10 seconds.

It’s a very rare F150. This truck follows the formula of the high-performance Lightning models, which have a single cab, and a small bed. We know that the truck has a Whipple supercharger but it is not clear what else the engine might be doing. It appears to be a two wheel-drive model, based on the burnout before the races. It’s therefore a great candidate to be a modern-day F150 Lightning, a street truck that has serious mojo on the drag strip.

This is a good thing, as the cars it meets in this video are well-suited to drag duty. The current Mustang Shelby GT500 can run 10-second quarter-mile times in stock mode. Although the Camaro ZL-1 runs in the 11-second area, we believe the F-150 is not the only vehicle with aftermarket upgrades. Bradenton Motorsports Park, Florida hosts the action. But before we move on to the Ford-versus–Chevy battle, the Blue Ovals will be battling it out. Each driver gets a clean start, with the truck reaching 131 mph in 10.87 seconds. The Shelby had a similar trap speed of 131 mph, but finished behind the truck at 11.18 seconds. Although it’s a win by the F-150, at that speed, this is a legitimate photo finish.

Although the GT500’s speed and time suggest that it was stock, the Camaro ZL1 seems to have more mojo, both under the hood as well as behind the wheel. With a quicker reaction time, the driver grabs the F-150 at the red light and then shifts the manual transmission like a pro. The car crosses the line at 130 mph in 10.61 seconds. Is the F-150 chasing down the Camaro in order to win? This is a hint, but we’ll save that for the video. This run is closer than the GT500 battle because of the Camaro’s faster reaction time. Enjoy the action, then relax and sit back.
