A camouflaged test vehicle will make some laps during IndyCar’s race weekend.
The new Honda Civic Type R will be here soon. Camouflaged prototypes were first seen almost a year ago. Honda’s official teaser campaign began last October. The teaser campaign is now on US shores, with a Type R prototype appearance planned for early July in Ohio. Honda will be present at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course during the NTT IndyCar Series race from July 1-3. It’s no surprise that Honda will be present at the track for the NTT IndyCar Series event at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course from July 1-3. This is a great opportunity to show Honda fans the new Type R. But, unfortunately, it’s not what we were hoping for. Although the prototype will remain in camouflage and Honda plans to send it around the track for several demonstration laps, Honda has not yet revealed the exact details. It will also be the Indy race leader on July 3.
This is the first time the Type R has been officially introduced in the United States. However, this is not the first time that we have seen it on track. Multiple spy photos have shown Type R test cars racing around the Nurburgring. Honda recently released a teaser video showing a test car at Suzuka , setting a new FWD Record that was held by the current Civic Type R.
Although we’ve seen many Civic Type R test cars, Honda remains elusive about what’s going on underneath. Although rumors have suggested that a hybrid powertrain could reach 400 horsepower, the Suzuka video shows this seems unlikely. A safe assumption is that the turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder will be redesigned to produce a little more power through a manual transmission.
Honda will show a camouflaged prototype of the 2023 Civic Type R in July. That means that an official debut of the 2023 Civic Type R is still at least six months away.
