Mercedes CEO on AMG One: "I'm sure We Were Drunk When we Said Yes"
The long and difficult road to creating an F1-powered hypercar was long.

The Project One hypercar concept was introduced by Mercedes-Benz in 2017. The automaker wants to create a street-legal vehicle with a 1,000-horsepower engine that is derived from Formula One.

The original goal was to launch the hypercar by 2019. Mercedes-AMG is yet to produce the limited number of 275 One units. This was originally planned. During the development phase of this ambitious project, the automaker cited several roadblocks, the most prominent being stricter emission laws. Mercedes-Benz CEO Olakallenius made a joke about the approval of this project when he was asked when it would finally be on the road.

“The AMG team and the High Performance Powertrain Formula 1 arm approached us four years ago with a great idea. Let’s make a Formula 1 engine for a road car. “I will have to go back and check the meeting minutes but I’m certain we were drunk when I said yes,” Kallenius joked, according to Autocar.

Although the AMG One project is difficult, Mercedes seems determined to complete the task. According to Mercedes, they will announce the AMG One’s details “in a few weeks.” We’ll soon know if it’s the production version of the AMG One or the technical specification sheet. We know at this point that the AMG One will begin production in.

Mercedes-Benz Head Marketing Bettina Fetzer stated that they will post a “very honest document” on the development of AMG One. This could help the automaker to be seen in a positive light, although it won’t be the same for future wealthy owners who are still waiting for their multimillion-dollar hypercar.
