Lexus also sold a brand new GS.
One fun thing you can do as manufacturers release their June sales reports is to see how many “zombie” cars they sold this year. This is cars that aren’t on the market for a while but might have sold this year.
We see supercars such as the a lot. Dodge Viper And Lexus LFA These sales reports show that dealers might have kept them in order to make a large profit. We rarely see two cars that can be considered mainstream on the list: The Toyota FJ Cruiser, and Lexus GS.
Even though the FJ Cruiser has not been sold in the USA since 2014, or in Japan since 2017, Toyota still sold one new FJ Cruiser between January and June. The FJ Cruiser is a classic in the short time it has been on sale. You can imagine the price tag this buyer would have to pay for a brand-new FJ Cruiser.
The company sold a new GS from Lexus between January and now. Although the GS isn’t as old as FJ Cruiser, it is odd to see a Lexus car that was discontinued over a year ago appear on a quarterly sales report. We think this GS may have been a V8-powered F model that a dealer kept secret, even though it doesn’t say so.
We’ve seen some of these zombie sales before, as we mentioned. Dodge sold two Vipers and a Dart this year. In 2019, Lexus sold three LFAs, while Dodge sold two new Vipers and a Dart! The Viper was discontinued by Dodge in 2017. Meanwhile, the Lexus LFA is no longer available on the market. We are curious to see which other zombie cars appear on the annual sales reports at year’s end.
