Mercedes announces next-generation Sprinter, ending partnership with Volkswagen

Mercedes officially announced their plans to end the partnership with Volkswagen on vans.

Mercedes officially announced their plans to end the partnership with Volkswagen on vans.

The company has decided to end their contract with the Volkswagen Crafter in order to realign the Sprinter production strategy. This will be done as part of a long-term restructuring of the Sprinter’s production strategy. The companies were able to tie up in 2005, and have since built around 280,000 Crafters.

Mercedes refused to give details, but Volker Mornhinweg (Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans) stated that “Both partners benefited from the long-lasting cooperation.” He said, “With our next Sprinter, currently in development,” that they would eventually be dependent on the Volkswagen production capacity. Our employees will produce their own brands in the future.
