The GS could be replaced next year.
Lexus has discontinued the GS sedan a little more than a year ago. However, according to the latest sales report from the brand, someone purchased a new GS earlier in this year. It’s not clear if that was a V8-powered Fspec model, but it appears that there may be a successor to the once-popular premium sedan. It’s not exactly what we expected, but it is still an interesting option.
According to Drive Lexus might fill the GS-like gap in its model lineup with a new sedan based upon the Toyota Mirai. If the information is accurate, it means that Lexus might make a luxury hydrogen-powered sedan based on the Mirai’s technologies. Although nothing is officially confirmed, the report is based upon an Instagram post that has since been deleted and which shows a leaked product roadmap of the marque.
Drive explains that the new product could get a different name, and could be launched in Asia or North America as an indirect replacement of the GS. The Mirai, a Japanese luxury vehicle, is currently manufactured on the same lines as the Toyota Crown. During the GS’s last sale, the Crown has shared many components with it.
According to leaked product plans, Lexus will unveil the successor to the GS sometime next year. If this is true, spy photos and teasers should be available in the months ahead of the year’s close.
The Mirai is currently affordable to purchase. It has an EPA-rated range up to 402 miles per tank. Although the peak output of 182 horsepower isn’t very exciting, it can propel you from 0-60 MPH in 9.2 seconds.
