Doug Demuro Highlights the Quirks and Features of 1987 Dodge Camper Van

It is so brown on the outside as well as inside the cabin.

The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated a growing trend in camper vans. An RV is a great option if you are looking to travel but still have social distance. Doug Demuro continues this trend and checks out a 1987 Dodge Ram Van that has been converted into a motorhome.

Roadtrek, a company that adds length to Ram Vans to make them more comfortable and liveable, added approximately two to three feet to the rear. The seam at the extension point is obvious. It has a 1980s look with a beige body, and burnt orange and brown stripes.

The swing-out doors at the sides offer a view into the very, very dark brown. This is what Demuro laughs at, but the color scheme fits the period’s style. The cabin has a lot of wood finishes that create a cozy feeling. However, it seems that keeping the shag carpeting clean is a challenge.

Although it is quite compact for a camper van, the kitchenette includes a fridge, a sink with 20-gallon freshwater tanks, a stove with vent fan and a microwave. This includes everything you need to cook a meal.

A closet also houses a toilet. Demuro is fascinated by the way that the doors open and close to create private spaces.

The rear area can be converted into a bed by using the conversion feature. There are also controls for the heater and air conditioner.

Demuro claims that the van is surprisingly agile on the road. However, it doesn’t have a lot of straight-line performance. According to him, the engine is either a V8 with 147 horsepower or an a 5.9-liter unit with 155 horsepower. This is not much power for a vehicle of this size.

Although it is almost 35 years old, this Ram Van camper is very functional as an RV.
