All things black, except the kidneys.
The BMW X5 has been a huge commercial success since its launch in 1999. Now, it is getting a sinister edition in Europe and the United States. The images show the hot HTML50i destined to the Old Continent. However, North America will receive the less expensive xDrive40i version. There are approximately 350 units.
The brake calipers come in red and are part of an extensive range of M goodies that includes an M Sport Package, adaptive M suspension and an M Sport exhaust. The latter feature is only available for the Euro-spec M50i, while the xDrive40i in the US is not eligible. BMW includes adaptive full-LED headlights that incorporate laser technology to sweeten the deal.
The Black Vermilion Special Edition adds to the standard equipment. This edition includes a heated steering column, head-up display and remote engine start. Harman Kardon’s audio system is also included. This limited-run SUV comes with a fancy glass gear lever, start button, and a M-branded Alcantara headliner. The Euro version’s leather dashboard and carbon-fiber interior trim are not available on the xDrive40i.
All cars will get this predominantly black interior and exterior with contrast red accents. The price will be $82,300 plus $995 destination, or $20,000 more than the standard xDrive40i on which it is based. You can also buy the M50i, which is available in the US for $500 more than this version.
BMW will begin production at its Spartanburg plant in September, and the US-spec special edition will be completed in December.
