GMC confirms it will launch a second electric pickup beside the Hummer EV

GM won’t let Ford win the electric utility race.

We all know electrification will be the future. Car manufacturers have been working hard to ensure their future. GMC confirmed Monday to reporters that an electric full-size truck was on its way.

According to Automotive News, Duncan Aldred was the vice president for global Buick and GMC.
At this stage, details about the electric pickup are unlikely to be available. Aldred declined confirmation that the pickup truck will be named after its internal combustion engine-powered sibling. GMC Sierra.

This is not an unusual move, as we all know. Ford already has its F150 Lightning, and Rivian and Tesla have their own contenders in the electric pickup truck market. GMC’s Chevrolet, the family member of GMC, has confirmed that the Silverado EV will be built in the same factory as the Hummer EV.

The electric pickups will share the facility with GM’s Ultium battery. This includes the confirmed arrival of a GMC full size pickup. GMC has not yet provided any timeline, but it is expected that the new model will be available by next year, for the model year 2023.

Details are scarce, but we can assume the GMC truck will have a range of around 400 miles (644 kilometers), just like the Silverado Evo.

The Ford F-150 Lightning is the best-selling electric pickup truck. The plug-in version is America’s most popular nameplate. It can travel 230 miles (370 km) on a single charge, with the standard-range lithium battery. The larger extended-range lithium battery can keep the truck running for up to 300 miles (483 km).

In the coming months, we’ll learn more about the electric GMC pickup truck. Keep us on your radars for now.
