2022 VW Taigo Confirmed As A Small Crossover With The Ambition To Be A Coupe

Yes, this car has been seen before. But it’s a new name.

Are you confused by Volkswagen’s ever-growing range of crossovers in Europe? We are, too. We are. The small crossover is a long-awaited project. VW had made clear that it would bring Brazil’s Nivus to Europe under a new name and build it in Spain.

It measures 4.26 meters (167.7 in) in length, 1.75 meters (66.7 in) in width, and 1.49 mm (58.5 in) high. This is regardless of whether we are talking about the long-wheelbase or standard-wheelbase model. Its wheelbase is 2,566 mm (101 inches), making it slightly longer than the T-Cross, but shorter than the LWB-spec T-Cross.

The T-Roc is also available in different wheelbase lengths. All of them are longer that the Taigo’s. Side note: The Wolfsburg peeps also sell a Convertible on Old Continent, to pick up the Range Rover Evoque Convertible’s place.

The Taigo is an elegant alternative to the T-Cross, with a coupe-like roofline. The design is largely unchanged from the BR-spec Nivus. The R-Line flagship, which is featured in many of these images, features faux quad exhaust tips that we couldn’t live without.

The interior is also borrowed from its Brazilian sibling. The Euro-spec Taigo, which is borrowed from its Brazilian sibling, has more sophisticated climate control settings. The interior should be familiar if you have been in a Polo or T-Cross, which both received the climate control module with the mid-cycle facelift earlier this year.

The Taigo will only be sold with a front-wheel drive layout. This is because VW is slowly moving away from its TDI engines. Customers can choose from a three-cylinder, 1.0-liter engine or a larger and more powerful four-cylinder, 1.5-liter unit. The three-pot produces 95 horsepower (70 kW), 110 horsepower (81 kW), and the four-pot generates 150 horsepower (110 kW). The Taigo can be equipped with either a five-speed or six-speed manual transmission, as well as a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It all depends on which engine you choose.

The VW Taigo has everything you need to be a B-segment crossover. You can add a variety of options to the vehicle, such as a touchscreen on 9.2 inches, wireless charging, 18-inch wheels and other driver assistance features. The cargo area can hold 438 liters of luggage despite its low roofline. This is comparable to the T-Cross.

VW plans to sell its five-seat Taigo small crossover vehicle in 28 countries, including Turkey and Africa.
