Toyota Mirai Base, IS Cues Used to Renew the Lexus GS

This thing looks really sharp.

Motor1.com has a lot of affection for the Lexus model, especially the fourth-generation model. The GS was a comfortable and sporty sedan that Lexus sold in the USA for five years. It had a GSF version that produced 467 horsepower (343 kilowatts), from a naturally aspirated 5.0 liter V8.

The Lexus GS, as we all know, is dead. Rumours claim that we will soon see a Toyota Mirai replacement. Most likely, it will have a fuel-cell hybrid engine. Although we don’t know what to expect from the GS based on Mirai, rendering artist Sugarchow (aka @sugardesign_1) has their own vision.

This is a concept rendering of the Lexus GS. Artist clearly took inspiration from the IS sedan’s current design, adopting the grille, headlights and front fascia of the smaller four-door and blending them with a more sporty shape that is more in keeping with the quirky Mirai.

The rear end, in addition to the sportback layout has its full-width lightbar and LED taillights from smaller IS as well as its subtle spoiler. Because hybrid, there are no exhaust tips. A small “Fuel Cell” badge is located just behind the front bumper to indicate its unique powertrain.

According to reports, the new Lexus could be available in Mirai next year. The new GS will likely use the Mirai FCV hybrid powertrain. It currently produces 182 hp (136 kW), and has 402 miles total driving range (or 76 mpge). The Lexus GS may be restricted to a handful of states with hydrogen fueling stations, just like the Mirai. We will have to wait to see if the Lexus GS FCV is actually realized.
