Do not let the cute exterior fool you.
The Geo Tracker crossover isn’t the most popular from the 90s. The Hummer H1 would likely win this title, but the 1996 model that was sold on Cars & Bids is very unique, even though its adorable exterior suggests otherwise. The immaculate exterior and bright red paint conceal a powerful V6 from a fifth generation Chevy Camaro. This crossover has a lot of power.
The Tracker was first equipped with a 1.6-liter four cylinder that produced 96 horsepower (72 megawatts) in 1996. The Tracker’s 3.6-liter V6 is now tucked between the fenders. It produced 323 horsepower (240 kW) as well as 278 pound-feet (376 Newton meters) of torque. This is a significant upgrade for the small crossover. However, it could have been making more. The car has a cold air intake and dual exhaust system with cat-delete.
The Camaro’s six speed automatic gearbox and 4.30 rear differentials provide power routes to the rear wheels. However, there are many upgrades. The Tracker has a custom radiator, LED lights, an insert for the instrument panel, and 17-inch Dodge Ram tires. Hand-crank windows and cloth upholstery are standard features. The soft top can also be folded manually. The Porsche Guards Red paint makes the car pop and hides any blemishes that you might expect to find on a 25 year-old car.
Today’s auction ended and the Tracker was sold for a hefty $14,250. Although the Tracker appears like any other well-kept Tracker at first glance, the aftermarket wheels, chunkier tires and custom-built Tracker make it stand out. Although it may seem absurd to fit such a large engine into such a small vehicle, there was not enough room for the air conditioner or the V6 engine. However, this is a well-constructed build and we think it would be fun to drive.
