The total purse for the GR Cup is $1 million.
As part of the new GR Cup, the Toyota GR86 will race in the United States in 2023. The series of one-make races will be held at seven tracks in the US.
Toyota Racing Development (TRD), will construct the and GR86 Cup vehicles at its Mooresville facility. These modifications include a Bosch engine management system, a Borla exhaust and 22-gallon fuel cells. A six-speed sequential gearbox will be used. Alcon brakes will also be used. JRI adjustable shocks will be used. Toyota Gazoo Racing-designed braces will also be installed. The body will include a Gazoo-built front cutter, vented roof, carbon-fiber rear wings, and other modifications. OMP safety equipment will be included inside, as well as a roll cage.
Toyotas participating in the GR Cup in America have had fewer modifications to their GR86 and BRZ races in Japan than the Toyotas. They have the same mechanical modifications as the Toyotas: an engine oil cooler, and a rear differential covering with cooling fins. The cabin is equipped with a safety harness and roll cage for driver safety.
The Special Edition model was launched by Toyota after the arrival of the new generation. The Special Edition model is available in an exclusive Solar Shift orange with black stripes at the rear pillar. Gazoo Racing’s cat-back exhaust features black chrome tips. The vehicle is equipped with 18-inch matte black wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires. The rear deck is equipped with a ducktail spoiler. The interior features faux suede and leather upholstery.
The GR86 Special Edition features the regular model’s 2.4 liter flat four-cylinder, which produces 228 horsepower (170 kilowatts). You can choose between a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox. Toyota has limited the GR86 Special Edition to just 860 units in the US. It is not yet available with pricing.
