Suzuki Alto Lapin LPC Debuts as a Cute Kei Car with Retro Looks

Suzuki wanted the styling to be reminiscent of the Fronte 360 Kei car in the late 1960s.

Creativity can be limited. The Kei-class Japanese cars are an excellent example. There are guidelines for the size of their engines, displacement and power output. The automakers are creative and create small, beautiful vehicles such as the new Suzuki Alto Lapin LC.

The LC makes the already adorable Alto Lapin even more cute. Standard models have a grille that spans the space between the headlights. It is made of a large, metallic piece. The LC however has a smaller, more open grille with chrome accents. The vehicle’s front features are dominated by a narrow slit. Chrome trim rings are added to the headlights. The rear of this version is identical to the standard Lapin except that it has a wing-shaped badge featuring the LC logo.

The front end of the Alto Lapin regular vehicle subtly evokes a Renault 4 from 1960s. However, automaker claims that the LC should recall the Suzuki Fronte 360 in the late ’60s. The little car is available in retro colors like beige, pale pink, brown, and blue to keep with its retro look. You can also choose from two-tone colors with a brown or white roof. The interior layout of the LC is identical to the Alto Lapin, but it has some special touches. The upholstery is made from a mixture of chocolate-colored faux leather and brown plaid fabric. The cabin does not appear too dark in other areas, such as the headliner and door panels. The dashboard can be ordered in either a Dark Gray Pearl or wood-effect panel.

A 7-inch LCD infotainment screen is an option on the Lapin LC’s interior. The heated seat can be adjusted to the desired temperature and there is automatic climate control. Lapin, French for rabbit, is the name of the info display below the speedometer. Lapin LC is powered by a 660cc 3-cylinder engine that produces 63 horsepower (47 kilowatts). All models come with a CVT and buyers have the option to choose between front- or all-wheel drive. The Lapin LC starts at 1,409 100 yen ($10 438 at current exchange rate). The top-of-the-line version costs 1,646,700 yen ($12199).
