The original AM radio can now control a Bluetooth audio system as an added touch.
Icon’s Reformer series one-offs are based on classic vehicles and modified for modern use. The last machine to receive this treatment was a 1970 F100 short bed pickup. Icon’s attention to detail is evident in the machine.
Jonathan Ward, Lead Designer, and Founder of Icon4x4, stated that the project was about “rewriting history”.
Ward found the truck on Craigslist and the client drove it for some time before the pickup was sold. The original color scheme is still on the exterior. Ward’s crew ensures that all trim is straighter than it was when it arrived from the factory. For better visibility, the bed has LED lighting hidden in strips.
This truck now has a Ford 5.0-liter Coyote 5.0-horsepower (318 kilowatts) Ford 5.0L Coyote V8. It attaches to an Ford AOD automatic transmission. The drivetrain is a twin-stick Advance Adapters Atlas II transfer box that shuffles power between Dana axles at each end. Brembo brakes have six-piston calipers at the front and four-piston stoppers at the rear, making it easier to slow down than the original. The truck has a new frame and suspension. It uses Eibach springs with Fox Racing dampers.
Amazing attention to detail is evident in the interior. Although the seats look like they are made from vinyl, the interior is now leather and has fabric inserts. Although the gauge cluster looks stock, it is actually a brand new unit by Dakota Digital. Although the AM radio is still present, it does not control a hidden Bluetooth audio system. A much more advanced air conditioning system is available.
