Only 50 of these will be made so we won’t all die.
Toyota seems to be in Halloween spirit, which coincides with the 50th anniversary of the rugged Hilux pickup. The truck which still runs (sort of anyway) after Top Gear dropped a building on top of it is now fifty years old. Toyota has released the limited-edition Hilux Invincible 50 pickup to celebrate and prepare us for the zombie invasion. You can read the Toyota press release below to learn more about how this model will perform against a zombie invasion.
It’s not your standard Hilux, as the photos show. The bed is adorned with a huge roll bar and four large LED spotlights. This will allow you to see everything in front of your eyes. The upgraded suspension components, which include new dampers, have a modest 1.5-inch and a.75 inch lift in the front. Toyota gives the Invincible50 a little more adjustability in the driver’s seat.
The truck’s electronics are equipped with Toyota’s Safety Sense Pre-Collision System. This system, according to the company, “can identify undead in your way.” We understand that this Halloween gag is only temporary. This special edition Hilux is equipped with the most recent safety technology and some hard tweaks. The rest of the truck, including the 2.4-liter motor and the traditional four-wheel drive, is as standard. But why fix what isn’t broken? There’s a reason why the Hilux has survived for half a century.
To commemorate Toyota’s 50 year production run, 50 special-edition models will be built by Toyota. UK buyers will have to wait until Halloween to buy these special-edition models.
