It’s large, beautiful, and ready to go.
Porsche is a racing team with a rich and varied history, which dates back to the beginning of the century. A pair of 1968 Mercedes-Benz transport vans, which transported cars such as the 917 and 956 around Europe, was a key element to all of that success on track. They are both still in existence, which is interesting considering that one of them calls Porsche headquarters home and the other was formerly displayed at the Brumos collection in Jacksonville, Florida.
With a new 911 and undoubtedly many 992-based racing teams to follow, and the debut of the track only 935 just a few weeks ago, one designer believes it’s time for Porsche reimagine its iconic red bus in a modern way. We agree.
This all-new digitally-imagined Porsche transporter was created by Russian designer and render artist Igor Shitikov. He calls it the “Volkswagen Renntransporter”. Instead of the traditional silver tri-star logo, this time it sports a VW badge with modern elements inspired from concepts like I.D. Buzz instead. This is a fitting upgrade considering Porsche’s family ties.
It is a stunning concept, and shares many similarities with Mercedes transporters from late ’60s. The exterior of the transporter is a red tribute to the original duo. It still retains a boxy shape that can fit two Porsche race cars at the rear.
A clear glass panel with the Porsche logo is emblazoned on each side of Renntransporter that lifts up to make it easy to access is located on each side. The rear has an automatic folding ramp that makes it easy to ingress and exit. This big red bus, which is loaded with a 935 GT3 and a 911 GT3, would be a joy to see in the paddock.
This rendering, like many others we feature, has little chance of being produced. Artist Igor Shitikov said, “Just a few weeks before the Rennsport Reunion began, I started to work on a proper lifery and visualizations for [the idea]. In the middle of this process, I noticed the new Moby dick. This would make a great combination – a retro truck with cool livery and two original 935 MDs.
