Toyota Land Cruiser 70, 37 Years Old, Still in Production.

Toyota claims that it is “still powerful, yet indestructible”.

The Land Cruiser is getting lots of attention recently, due to the fact that Toyota just launched the all new 300 Series globally and has phased out the model entirely in the United States. Although the 70 Series was originally launched in 1984, it is still very popular. It will be updated next year in Australia, where it is still very popular.

The LC70 pickup truck is available in single cab or double cab versions. It also comes with the five-door Wagon body style and the two-door Troop Carrier body style. Hardware improvements will be made to the LC70 within the next twelve months. Motoring in Australia has received information from Toyota representatives that the trusted off-roader will receive a safety upgrade and an increased payload.

Over its 37-year-old life cycle, the Land Cruiser 70 Series has seen many updates. The most recent was last year, when the Australian version got a 6.1-inch touchscreen with dual USB ports and other improvements. The launch of a cleaner diesel engine in 2016 was a step back. It also included a traction control system and side curtain airbags. There were many electronic aids for drivers.

The 4.5-liter turbodiesel V8 engine produces 202 horsepower (151kilowatts) as well as 317 pound-feet (335 Newton-meters). A five-speed manual transmission delivers the diesel power to the four-wheel drive system. Motoring says it is unlikely that the 2022 update will include the twin-turbo V6 engine found in the Land Cruiser 300 Series. It produces 305 horsepower (227 kW), and 516 lbft (700 Nm), which are sent to the wheels via a ten speed automatic.

The LC70 is also available in the Middle East, where the FJ Cruiser can still be purchased. This is due to the fact that the automaker has invested money in an upgraded version. Toyota has been considering a direct replacement for the Series 70 since 2013. However, it seems like it is prioritizing ongoing development of the Series 70. It was the same with its predecessor, as the 40 Series was manufactured between 1960 and 2001.

Although it’s not clear when the updated version will launch, Toyota stated to Motoring that they would.

“In our ongoing effort to improve, we plan to continue updating the specifications of the model in the next major update. The details will be announced in due course.”
