The Ultimae isn’t a preview, says company boss.
Many wondered if the Sian FKP37 debut in September 2019 was a preview for the Aventador’s replacement. It wasn’t long before Head of Design Mitja Borkert revealed that the electrified Lambo’s styling wasn’t a glimpse into the future Sant’Agata Bolognese’s flagship.
The Ultimae has been unveiled, and it is a similar story. It actually matches the Aventador’s design better than the Sian FKP 37. It’s possible that some are thinking it’s a preview of the V12 supercar’s future. The 2007 Reventon was also a teaser for Aventador’s introduction four years later. It turns out that CEO Stefan Winkelmann has stated that the next range topper of the V12 supercar will be completely different.
Lamborghini’s head honcho, revealed that the Ultimae was a design that is inspired by the Aventador tradition in an interview with British magazine Autocar. The next-up will be an entirely different cup of tea. It’s like switching from the Murcielago into the Aventador. The crown jewel of this range will get a new look. This is good news, considering that the Aventador’s design has been around for a decade.
The new supercar, which will launch in 2023, will feature an all-new V12 engine that has an electric boost. The new supercar will not be a plug in hybrid like the 2014 Asterion concept. It also won’t inherit the Sian FKP37’s supercapacitor technology. The latter’s setup will be used to create a V12 car that debuts this summer. It is likely to be a limited-run special edition.
Although Lamborghini plans to hybridize its twelve-cylinder engine with a 12-cylinder one, purists will be disappointed. However, it is the only way to keep V12 running and comply with increasingly strict emissions regulations. Either that, or downsize the engine to a smaller one and throw a turbo to make up for the loss of several other cylinders.
