Images of teaser images with low resolution leave little to the imagination.
These images of the upcoming Hyundai Custo can technically be considered teasers. Hyundai may sometimes have a different definition of the teaser than others. These photos show the new, bulky minivan that is destined for China. However, they are low resolution. Here’s the Custo, in all its glory.
Hyundai prefers that you call it a multi-purpose vehicle, or MPV, like its Kia Carnival. These photos were shared by Beijing Hyundai via China’s Sina Weibo Social Media Website. They remind us of two important things. The minivan isn’t dead. In fact, there’s a lot of demand for smaller vans in China. The second reason the minivan could be around is its SUV-inspired styling. The Custo’s bold grille and chunky front clip are heavily inspired by the Tucson. The minivan’s bold body lines look very Tucson-esque. However, both sides have sliding doors.
It’s not the first time that we have seen the Custo full-monte. During homologation, the Minivan MPV was leaked to the internet by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. These photos actually showed more detail, even though they weren’t very glamorous.
Hyundai is not able to do much other than smile and bear the consequences of government postings. The interior remains a mystery.
It isn’t. Hyundai shared teaser photos of the Custo greenhouse at July’s end. They show a minimalist layout and a 10.4-inch touchscreen. There are seven seats, with two captain’s chairs in each row and a bench at their backs. This layout is influenced more by the Tucson’s design, especially the steering wheel. The powertrain, however, is still a mystery. It’s still a mystery.
It is, in a sense. China also revealed photos of a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine producing 167 horsepower (124.5kW) under the hood. But that’s not all. Rumours have circulated that a turbocharged mill of 2.0-liter capacity will be offered. If there is some familiarity with those options, then it may be the same option as the Tucson.
The new Custo has not been revealed in its entirety. Although we have seen the exterior and interior of the Custo, it is not clear what the powertrain will be like or whether there are any technology or optional equipment. We expect the Custo’s final debut at Chengdu Auto Show in August.
