The Veyron Super Sport ran at 434 km/h. For a new land speed record, the model reached an average speed of 431 km/h.
Bugatti’s Veyron 16.4 Super Sport, the promised 1,200 horsepower Veyron model, has been unveiled. It has set a new land speed record at over 430 km/h (268mph).The Veyron Super Sport reached an average speed of 431,072 km/h (or 268 mph) on Saturday afternoon, July 3. The Bugatti test driver Pierre Henri Raphanel piloted the car, while German inspection officials (TUV), watched. The car reached speeds of 428 km/h once and 434 km/h twice. The Guinness Book of Records representative was present to witness the new record.
In a press release, Dr. Wolfgang Schreiber (Bugatti’s chief engineer) stated that while we assumed that we would achieve an average speed of 425 km/h (265 mph), the conditions today allowed us to do more.
Super Sport’s 1,200 horsepower (882 kW) & 1,500 Nm (1106 Lb-ft.) are 200 hp (250 Nm) and 1106 Lb-ft respectively, which is an increase of 200 hp (184 lb.ft.) over the standard Veyron. Bugatti engineers used four larger turbochargers to boost the power of the 8.0-liter 16-cylinder engine. They also added larger intercoolers. Veyron Super Sport gets chassis tuning that includes a stronger stabilizer, increased main-spring travel and racing-grade shock absorbers.
However, the street-prowling Veyron Super Sport will only be able to travel at 415 km/h (258 miles).
In August, the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport will make a public appearance at California’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
