It could be the Fusion/Mondeo successor.
Ford registered last August the Mondeo-Evos moniker to be used in future production or concept cars. The Blue Oval company filed a trademark in Europe on the Stormtrak name, according to . This fuels rumors about a successor to the Mondeo.
We have heard that Ford may be working on a lifted wagon which will be available at both ends of the big pond. The automaker could be using the Stormtrak name to indicate that it is moving forward with model development. It could be used to make a completely new vehicle, but it is not yet confirmed.
Initial reports indicate that the lifted, rugged wagon will compete against the Subaru Outback. It will be built on a stretched version the new Euro-spec Focus. The C2 modular platform can be used with a variety of powertrain configurations including hybrid engines and combustion engines, as well an all-wheel drive configuration.
Ford intends to sell the vehicle in America, Europe and elsewhere. Previous reports that the 1.5-liter turbo gasoline engine would be the base model seem quite convincing. A range of diesel engines should be available on the Old Continent. This includes an optimized version today’s 2.0-liter EcoBlue range. Hybrid powertrains could be offered in both markets.
The all-new model will likely debut in 2021 if all of this proves true. The lifted wagon could be released in the United States in 2022 to replace the Fusion, but again, no information has come straight from the automaker. The rugged, long-roofing European model should replace S-Max and Galaxy.
