A new rendering of BMW M2 previews an aggressive sports coupe

If we are lucky, this is how the M2 will look.

The new BMW 2 Series will soon get the proper M treatment. We’ve seen spy photos of the new performance coupe while it was being tested on and around the Nurburgring . Kolesa.ru has provided a sneak peek at the M2 via Photoshop. They are imagining how the new coupe will look when it goes into production.

This render is sharper than the M240i base 230i. The mockup has a large opening at its base that may have not seen yet. There are also two vents that can be opened on either side. There have been some modifications to the kidney grilles like horizontal slats in place of mesh and an embedded “M2” badge in the top left corner.

This M2 rendering’s backside is a little more subtle. The M240i’s taillight design is the same as before, with unique LED detailing and black accents. The trunk lid now has a carbon fiber spoiler, larger vent openings behind wheels and quad exhaust tips.

We believe the new M2 will be equipped with a turbocharged six-cylinder engine (detuned to S58), capable of 490 horsepower (365kilowatts) as well as 406 pound-feet (550newton-meters). Rumours suggest that the M2 will have a manual gearbox in addition to the automatic. This could also be rear-wheel drive.

The new M2 will not be officially introduced by BMW until then, but buyers can still get either one of the current models. The base M230i features a turbocharged 2.0 liter inline-4 to produce 255 horsepower (190 kW), while M240i has a turbocharged 3.0-liter Inline-six that produces a stronger 382 HP (285 kW). BMW will announce pricing information closer to the date of their sale.
