VW’s EV line-up will grow.
Volkswagen has tentatively indicated that it will add two additional models to its ID family in the future. These models will be below the HTML3, HTML4 already available and will target customers looking for affordable EV-city cars. Two new reports have finally revealed the truth about the type vehicle ID.2.
Both Auto Express as well as Automotive News Europe report back that the ID.2 is a baby SUV. This makes sense given their current popularity. VW is rumored to be working on a smaller, more affordable version of its all electric MEB platform. This will allow for the use of small, affordable models by other VW Group companies like Skoda and SEAT.
The debut date for the VW ID.2 is not yet known. Although rumors from last year suggested it would arrive in 2023 according to two reports, that is not the case. Automotive News Europe stated that it didn’t anticipate it arriving until 2027. Auto Express reported that it will debut before 2025. The ID.2 could debut as a Skoda or SEAT model before the VW model, which could explain the confusion over when the model will debut.
The ID.2 will be available in a variety of battery sizes like other ID models. According to rumors, the smallest size is only 30 kilowatt hours. This would give it a range of approximately 120 miles (193 km). The compact size of the ID.2 would be accompanied by a small price. Automotive News Europe reports that the Group’s mini-EVs will retail for around EUR19,000 (or 22,330 at current exchange rates). Skoda was also mentioned in the publication as having been assigned by VW Group to develop the ID.2 and other compact EVs.
