Heroes in a Half Shell drove a van but their creator drove an NSX.
The Acura Type S is coming to us. On August 12, the second-generation NSX will be unveiled. But, we want to go back in time a little. Let’s take a look back at 1991 and the origins of the NSX Legacy, but this time with a completely tubular twist. This bit of history is yours if you have any spare change.
A stunning example of a first year NSX is currently available at ClassicCars.com. This 1991 model has just over 50,000 miles according to the listing. It’s rare to find a combination of Berlina Black and an Ivory White interior. Although NSXs in America are rare, the seller claims that less than 500 were made in this spec in 1991. You will also find a manual transmission and the smooth 3.0-liter V6 that produces 270 horsepower.
The car is stunning inside and out. It also comes with all the documents and the original window sticker. The selling dealer claims that Kevin Eastman, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator, was the original owner. The window sticker actually features Eastman’s signature on a hastily drawn turtle. The Heroes in a Half Shell owned the 1990s and Eastman apparently loved Honda’s supercar. There’s nothing wrong with that.
Since Eastman was behind the wheel of the NSX, it has been reported that the car has passed through a few owners. According to the listing, he sold the car to his second owner in 2016, who then gave it to the third owner in 2017, after having only driven three miles. This brings the NSX up to date, with it being sold in Pontiac (Michigan) for $80,000.
Cool cars with cool histories are our favorite. We love Acura NSX and TMNT when it comes to ’90s nostalgia.
