It is the same length as the Volkswagen ID.6.
Do you remember the Audi Concept Shanghai that we showed earlier in the year? You can now meet the production version. The production version is called Q5 E-Tron and makes its debut in China via revealing images posted on the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology website. It’s part the homologation process that all new cars sold in China’s People’s Republic must go through.
The new Q5 Etron, despite being branded Q5, has very few similarities to the midsize luxury crossover. This is because it’s a larger SUV that is twinned together with the VolkswagenID.6. It is a three-row electric vehicle with a length of 4,876 millimeters (192 in) exactly like its Wolfsburg cousin. It also has the same wheelbase, measuring 2,965mm (116.7in) and is slightly shorter than the 3,000mm (118.1in) between the axles on the Hyundai Hyundai Ioniq5
We don’t have interior photos at the moment, but we can see the Audi Q5 E-Tron from almost all angles. The MIIT website shows several options for alloy wheels and paint colors, including one in bright orange that is likely reserved for more expensive models. You can also choose from different headlight designs depending on your trim. There is also a two-tone finish available for the side mirror caps.
We learn about the 35 Etron and 50 Etron Quattro models. These are, as you probably guessed, mechanically similar to the single-motor and dual-motor VW ID.6. The MEB-based electric SUV will come with a rear-wheel drive layout and an electric motor that produces 177 horsepower (132 megawatts). The VW’s electric motor can sprint from 62 mph to 100 km/h in 9.3 seconds. A single-motor model is also available in a more tune at 201 HP (150 kW), which cuts down two-tenths on the sprint in the case ID.6.
If we’re talking VW, the dual-motor, all wheel-drive Q5 E–Tron produces a little more than 300 horsepower and can complete the sprint in just 6.6 seconds. The MIIT website states that the Quattro-equipped model weighed in at 2,410 kilograms (5.313 pounds). This is almost the same weight as the Bentley Bentayga.
Official debut is expected to be at the Chengdu Motor Show’s August 27th. Similar to the ID.6, the Q5 Etron will be a China-only model. The rest of the world will receive the more advanced PPE-based HTML6 E-Tron. It will be twinned to the Porsche Macan EV and expected to be revealed in 2022.
