It seems obvious that the compact truck could be made street-legal.
Although the Ford Maverick is not yet available in dealerships, it’s not stopping people from discussing future Maverick models. The most intriguing of these variants is the ST model, which is dedicated to on-road performance. Since the Maverick was launched in June 2021, it has been circulated on internet forums and news sites. There are rumors about Ford suggesting that this version may be in the works of Dearborn executives.
Although it’s not a confirmed fact, Ford Maverick Marketing Manager Trevor Scott said that such an event is being closely monitored to determine if there is a chance, according to Ford Authority. This is not a denial. It suggests Ford is aware all the talk about an ST. This information is consistent with an earlier report that cited Ford CEO Jim Farley discussing a whole family of Maverick models, but he seemed to be more focused on an all-electric model. An all-electric ST would be a big hit with people, thanks to its punchy F150 Lightning.
Our view shows that most of the components for an ST version have been included in the current Maverick. The turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder engine produces 250 horsepower (186 kilowatts) as well as 277 pound-feet (376 Newton meters) of torque. All-wheel drive is possible. This combination should make the Maverick, weighing in at 3,700 lbs, quite lively. However, Ford’s turbocharged 2.0-liter engine would give the Maverick more power and make it a street-fighter. A street-tuned suspension and color-matched trim can make a Maverick ST.
We are aware Ford is trying a different demographic by launching the Maverick. Ford is not aiming to appeal to truck buyers but sedan and hatchback customers. Ford is also trying to attract first-time buyers of new cars into the Maverick. With a starting price around $21,000, delivery fees included, it is certainly comparable with small cars and crossovers. These buyers may be more interested in a street-oriented version, even if they don’t want to use or have any truck functions.
We suspect that buyers and Ford executives alike will be able to see if an ST model is worth it when the Maverick finally arrives in the fall.
