Sandero wins over Golf
The new vehicle sales king is not interested in golf. The Dacia Sandero hatchback is the top-selling European vehicle for July 2021. The Sandero narrowly beat out the Volkswagen Golf, the perennial winner of best-selling European vehicle. This shift in customer demand is what you can blame.
It’s not the first time Dacia Sunero has beaten the VW Golf in terms of sales. The Sandero was first introduced in 2008, but it didn’t last long. The top five selling machines in Europe are the Hatchbacks, with four of the top five representing these versatile little machines.
After four months of growth, overall new car sales dropped by 24%. This indicates a decrease in interest and ability to buy a new car. This has enabled the Dacia Sandero, a more affordable car for those with lower disposable incomes to shine.
VW isn’t all bad news. It was only the Dacia Sandero that beat the Golf by approximately 1,000 units, so it’s still very close. VW has three of the top five most popular models in Europe, which is an indication that its product portfolio is still able to capture a large amount of sales, even in difficult times. The Toyota Yaris ranked third in the top-selling cars, just behind the VW Golf.
Automakers are currently facing the most difficult conditions in a long while, due to the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the chip shortage crisis. Customers with lower disposable income seek more affordable options, which has allowed Dacia Sandero to be the top-selling car in July 2021.
