It features a Raptor-like grille, and a limited-slip differential in Europe.
A Ford patent filing with United States Patent and Trademark Office points towards the Blue Oval that brings the Transit Trail into America. The paperwork was submitted by Ford on April 29, 2020 and published by the USPTO on August 10, 2021.
The Transit Trail’s front grille features a bold Ford logo, similar to the one used by the company for its Raptor models. The lower section of the vehicle is covered in black, as well as the 16-inch wheels.
Ford positions the Transit Trail as being “rough-road-capable,” and the upgrades to make that statement accurate include a limited-slip differential and a reworked traction control system. An all-wheel drive system can be chosen by buyers. This system routes all power to the rear axle, but can also send 50 percent to it to the front if things get slippery.
The cabin features “wipe-clean” leather upholstery, heated windshield, automatic headlights and power-folding sidemirrors.
The Transit Trail in Europe is offered with a 2.0-liter turbodiesel. However, this powerplant is also available in the US. American versions come with either a V6 naturally aspirated with 275 horsepower (205 Kilowatts), and 262 poundfeet (355 Newton meters), or a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 with 310 HP (231 kW), and 442 lb-ft (542Nm).
The Transit Trail is a great place to start an overlander build. This van is already a favorite platform for these off-road-capable campers.
The USPTO has not published a similar patent to cover the Transit Connect Trail. Ford is not planning to import the smaller van to the US at all, this suggests.
