It’s also available for purchase.
We know that this is not a copy of the “hot 4×4” 4×4 featured in the Back To the Future. It was a 1985 Toyota SR5 five speed with black wheels, a roll bar and a bank off-road lights. This truck is a 1986 beige automatic with just a few chrome accessories. We don’t mind at all, as this 4×4 makes our hearts giddy like Marty McFly going to the lake with Jennifer for a weekend.
This Xtracab 4×4 Toyota truck enthusiast will not care because it is so clean. The truck will cross the auction block with RM Sotheby’s at the big Labor Day weekend in Auburn, Indiana on September 3. Estimates suggest that this truck will bring between $35,000 to $45,000. The old Hilux has had a long history of success, and this is not only because of the Back to the Future tie in. These pickups have a long history of reliability and durability. They also look great in 4×4 Xtracab guise.
This truck has 159,308 kilometers on the odometer. This is not because it’s unusual to see this much mileage on an era Toyota but because it’s absolutely spotless. It looks like the factory striping on its side has never been in contact with tree limbs while on a trail. The chrome bumpers are spotless, as is the rollbar. The 22R-E four-cylinder fuel-injected 22R-4E engine is as clean as the interior. It is not clear if any restoration work has been done on the truck or if it is a well-preserved original. It’s a sure-fire keeper.
This truck is a mere paint job, and a few KC light away from being a nice replica of Marty McFly’s 4×4 in the movie. We couldn’t help but make this change. This 35-year-old Toyota pickup survived a rough life, and should be left as it is. The color of the pickup doesn’t really matter if there are a few sleeping bags at the back.
