The concept previews the Rapid replacement and also foreshadows a VW Golf GTI rival.
The unveiling of the Kodiaq RS coincided with the Skoda Vision RS Concept, a sleek five-door hatchback that gives a glimpse of what’s to come in the small car segment. This is a preview of the Rapid successor. The future model will be a more refined, compact hatch that can compete with the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf. This concept shows a possible RS version. It was created to give us an idea about what we can expect from a GTI or ST competitor.
The Vision RS is a million times more interesting than the Rapid / Rapid Spaceback, and features a more elegant design language. This will hopefully be reflected in the production models. It measures 4356mm in length, 1431mm high, 1810mm wide, and has a 2650mm wheelbase. This makes it much longer, wider, and lower than the Rapid Spaceback. We expect similar proportions for next year’s regular production version. It has a cargo capacity that is 430 liters and offers 15 more liters than the Rapid Spaceback.
The Vision RS is a promising design, both inside and outside. It also features a hybrid powertrain that combines a 1.5-liter TSI gasoline engine and an electric motor. The combined output is 241 horsepower (180 kilowatts), which allows it to sprint from 0-60 mph (100 km/h) in just 7.1 seconds. It then reaches its maximum speed of 130 mph (220 kph). It takes 8.9 seconds for the 50-75mph (80-120 km/h) task.
The concept’s all-electric range is 43 miles (70 km) thanks to a 13-kWh lithium battery pack. It can be fully charged in just two and a quarter hours. The hybrid SkodaVision RS is very efficient and produces only 33 g/km CO 2. This gives it the best of both performance and efficiency.
Skoda’s Vision RS will be on display at the Paris Motor Show starting tomorrow. The Kodiaq RS will also be there.
