Facelift for BMW X6: Small Changes in a Snowy Wonderland

The swoopy crossover will make the biggest difference.

The third-generation BMW X6 was unveiled mid-2019, so the automaker is currently on track to refresh its slope-roofed crossover. A X6 prototype was available for us to test, but it had interior changes hidden beneath the same skin as the current model. We now have a first look at the outside changes, and it doesn’t seem like there are many.

Camouflage is limited to the front of this prototype that’s snowbound. Although the grille does not appear to change or grow in shape, it may be slightly wider if you look closely. The grille appears to have a little more space between the openings. However, this could just be camouflage keeping us guessing. The fascia is likely to be modified as the narrower headlights can clearly be seen. Camo wrap is effective at hiding details. However, the corners vents could be angled to better match the squared-off openings on the current X6. It is possible that the central vent could be moved down low.

Except for the badge between the taillights that hides the identity of the crossover, the rest of the car is unadorned. The refresh is expected to be mild, as there are no significant changes to the front or sides. Except for the interior.

Although we don’t have any new photos of the X6 inside, the above photo from last year shows a single curved screen unit with two digital screens. One is for instrumentation, the other is the larger touchscreen at the center. We know that iDrive8 will be available for the X6 and the update will need some changes to the dash. Also, expect some control tweaks.

We have conflicting reports about when an official reveal could occur. It could be later in the year as a 2023 model, or next year as a model for the 2024 model. There is still time for the next X6 to be officially revealed in either case.
