It appears to be in production form.
Although Porsche’s reveal the 2018 Cayman GTS is still a month away, attention is already shifting to what is expected be an incredible ultra-high performance Cayman GT4. These spy shots are the latest in GT4 testing. They show subtle changes in aerodynamic add-ons that were not visible in the car we saw at the Nurburgring in May. The lower fascia sports new air intakes or intakes that are disguised with camouflage. Side intakes now have additional vents and look identical to the Cayman GTS.
We also see a new rear fascia, with a modified diffuser and exhaust tips that are positioned a bit further to each side. As with the 2018 GTS, the taillights have been updated to match what we saw. The back window also has what looks like a roll cage. This would indicate that this is a GT4.
Although power figures have yet to be confirmed, the new GTS boasts 365 horsepower and the old GT4 has 385 ponies. It is widely believed that the new Cayman GT4 will produce more than 400 horsepower. The power will also be available without forced induction. Andreas Preuninger, Porsche GT boss, has stated that the GT cars will continue to be naturally aspirated for at most one more generation. Whether the flat-six engine gets a boost or not, power should be sent through either a manual transmission (or optional PDK dual clutch) gearbox.
The 718 Cayman GTS is out and about. Now the big question is when will the new GT4 become official. We expect that an official announcement of the new GT4 could come within a few months, as this test car is virtually camouflage-free and wears production components.
