BMW M5 CS Super Sedan Hits 60 MPH in a Mind-Boggling 2.81 Seconds

This test reveals that the ultimate M5 offers supercar-like acceleration.

Although automakers are preparing to retire internal combustion engines gradually, the ICE is still a popular choice for nearly 140 years since Karl Benz first introduced it. The M5CS has a twin-turbo, 4.4-liter V8 that produces 627 horsepower and 553 pounds-feet (750 Newton meters) of torque. This large sedan is known for its incredible acceleration.

BMW claims that the super saloon can reach 60 mph in 2.9 seconds from a standstill. However, this is typical German luxury brand performance. BMWBLOG had the opportunity to unleash the M5 CS, which was faster than expected.

It took the M5 CS just 2.81 seconds to reach 60 mph. This is impressive considering the sedan weighs in at 1,825 kg / 4,023 lbs. It’s still heavy, despite being around 154 lbs (70kg) lighter than the HTML5 Competition. Tesla fans will claim that the Model S Plaid is faster and more powerful than the CS. Motor Trend simulated the sprint at 2.28 seconds without any rollout.

The M5 CS may have more potential, taking into consideration Driver tested the lighter and less powerful M5 Competition. ran a sprint in just 2.6 seconds. The CS must be faster, surely? It starts at $142,000, which is almost 31,000 more than the Competition, and $19,000 more over the Tesla Model S Plaid.

We wouldn’t be surprised if M5 CS is the most powerful BMW outside of hybrids or EVs. We wouldn’t mind being wrong, but we would be happy to see a supercar that makes use of 627 horsepower in a lighter package. To give M1 enthusiasts the revival they have been longing for, the engine should be placed behind the seats.
