Is that the Camaro badge?
The GM Design Instagram account is a treasure trove for imaginative what-ifs. This latest post envisions a futuristic interior to a sports car. Although GM didn’t mention which model the interior was supposed to be for in the post, the rectangular steering wheel is an interpretation of the red and white Camaro badges. This is a sketch and it’s not clear if the Camaro will receive a seventh-generation model.
Tristan Murphy’s sketch shows a driver-focused interior. It tries to get rid of the bulky digital instrument cluster. Instead, it is replaced with a head up display and two smaller screens at the sides. This feels like the natural evolution that car interiors will undergo in the next decade. The indicator cluster appears to be integrated into the steering wheel at the top, with paddle shifters peeking out from behind.
The center console seems to have GM’s push button gear selector. It sits behind what appears like a pronounced trackpad, and a deep storage cubby. It looks almost as though the infotainment screen is hidden beneath the dash’s top. The interior design is simple and clean. It would look great in a future Camaro, but we don’t know how long the model will last.
Camaro sales have been declining year after year, leading to rumors about its impending demise. Chevy only sold 10,000 Camaros in the first half of the year. This is far less than its rivals, who both exceeded 30,000 sales during the same period. There is a new rumor that the Camaro will continue to be an all-electric sedan. However, we won’t believe it until we see it. It does seem that Ford is having success with the Mustang Mach–E crossover. We believe anything is possible, but we would love to see this interior in a future Camaro.
