Dodge Hints Electric Muscle Car will coexist with Performance ICE

The end of gas-burning engines might be marked by a magnificent, last combustion-powered muscle car.

In an interview with Muscle Cars and Trucks, Tim Kuniskis, CEO of Dodge, suggested that the brand’s new electric model will coexist with its combustion-powered muscle cars for a while. He also spoke about the challenges of convincing the brand’s existing customers to switch to the EV.

Kuniskis stated that the new platform will be available in 2024. Muscle Cars & Trucks . “The new car will be available in 2024. The current cars will not die in 2024, but we didn’t say so. While there might be some overlap, you won’t have years upon years of both the old and new cars at once.”

Kuniskis suggested that Dodge combustion-powered muscle cars might get one last chance. He clarified however that the final machine was not going to be built in 2024, but “maybe when it gets closer to the end.” It could follow the same path as the Viper.

Kuniskis stated that Viper was going away and ACR was being announced at the same moment. “That was a run-on Viper,” Kuniskis said to Muscle Cars and Trucks.

Kuniskis acknowledges that convincing muscle car owners to switch to an EV was a difficult task. He said that when you make a major change, people won’t always follow you. He expects them to return once they see the potential of an electric Dodge vehicle.

Dodge has been very tight-lipped about details regarding the electric muscle car. Although the teaser does not give a clear view, the vehicle seems to borrow styling cues from both the late 1960s Charger as well as the early ’70s Challenger . The Fratzog badge is also on the vehicle from this era.

The teaser image shows the car performing a four-wheel burnout. This suggests that at least one motor is turning each axle.
