It is not subtle.
It’s not the first time that we have seen the 992-generation Porsche 911 GT3RS prototype. But, we will always remember each encounter thanks to that large rear wing. These spy photos give us a clear view of the active spoiler.
Even though it might not be obvious, this particular prototype still sports a lot of camouflage. Black panels conceal details on the front and rear fenders as well as both fascias. The panels attempt to conceal things. Air extractors on front fenders can be easily seen, and aggressive hood vents can now be seen. We think there may be more vents under the covers at the back. It’s always funny to see Porsche tape its badges. This could be a new Toyota RV4.
To appreciate the sheer size of the active rear wing, we pay attention to the rear. The supports connecting to the body may not be completed as they are still covered in covers. We believe this is the final version of the production model. These photos were taken just outside of the Nurburgring. They capture the 911 at a slow speed to ensure clear images. The wing is quite complex and can be seen from the rear of the 911.
Although the wings and vents may seem excessive to some, they will be essential functions of the GT3 RS. The naturally-aspirated 4.0-liter flat-6 could produce as much as 580 horsepower (433 Kilowatts), but 560 hp (418kW) may be more reliable. The next-generation model will likely set a new record with such thrust and aero tricks baked into its body.
Unfortunately, we have yet to find out. The new 911 GT3 RS is expected to be available sometime in 2022.
