The Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-Benz C-Class all-Terrain gives this wagon a more rugged look by increasing the vehicle’s ground clearance and equipping it with standard all-wheel-drive. This is the ideal antidote to crossovers.
Ground clearance for the C-Class All-Terrain is 1.575 inches (40 milimters) higher than that of standard wagons in Europe. The steering knuckles on the front suspension are slightly larger. Two additional modes are available for the All-Terrain. For rugged terrain, Offroad is the best choice. For steep grades, Offroad+ has Downhill Speed Regulation.
The Digital Light system by Mercedes adds three powerful LEDs each to each headlight as an option for those who want to explore. These lamps light up a large area ahead when the driver activates an off-road driving mode. It can only operate at a speed of 31 miles per hour (50 km per hour).
The All-Terrain can be ordered with either the M254 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder Mercedes or the OM654 M 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel. Both engines feature mild-hybrid starter-generator tech.
The C-Class All-Terrain wagons need to be spacious. It can hold 17.3 cubic feet (490 liters), to 53.33 cubic foot (1510 liters), depending on whether the rear seats are up/down. Standard equipment includes a power-opening and closing tailgate. It can be operated from the ignition key.
The C-Class All-Terrain can be ordered with one of three color options: black, macchiato brown and black or sienna and black. Standard equipment includes a 10.25-inch (26.0 cm) driver display. An upgrade is available to a 12.3-inch (31.2 cm) one.
The All-Terrain’s infotainment system has an Offroad display screen. It shows the vehicle’s incline, decrease, and steering angle. It displays the vehicle’s GPS coordinates and provides a compass.
C-Class All-Terrain will make its debut at the International Motor Show, Munich, September. Later this year, the model will be available in Europe. Motor1.com reached Mercedes to inquire about American availability. We were informed that the C-Class All-Terrain would not be available in the US.
