“The Saint” Volvo 1800 S, the first Volvo 1800 S owned by Sir Roger Moore, will be on display at Techno-Classica Essen in Germany, Germany’s largest classic car show. It will take place in March.
An original 1967 Volvo 1800 S, owned by Sir Roger Moore, will be displayed with Volvo Cars Heritage at Techno-Classica Essen.
Before he played James Bond in seven films, Moore starred in The Saint as Simon Templar from 1962 to 1969.
Moore was named the registered keeper for his co-starring 1800 S in February 1967. It was finished in Pearl White and built at Volvo’s Torslanda plant, Sweden, at the close of 1966. The car was featured in the series until its end, wearing the “ST 1” numberplate.
Moore later sold the car to Martin Benson, an actor who played Mr Solo in Goldfinger.
Many owners followed and the car was restored to its original condition in the early 2000s. It retains a thermometer on its dashboard as well as an interior fan that was used to cool the actors during studio filming.
It will be the first European classic car show to feature the German car.
Techno-Classica will feature Moore’s car alongside another Volvo 1800 belonging Hakan Samuelsson (president and CEO of Volvo Cars).
Samuelsson stated that The Saint was my favorite TV program in the 1960s, and I have always wanted a P1800. It is the most iconic Volvo car and an excellent example of Scandinavian design. Volvo Cars proudly bought this car several years ago. Techno-Classica is very excited to display it. It’s a rare car with an amazing history,” said Per-Ake Froberg of Volvo Cars Heritage.
