Porsche Boxster Shooting Brake is Very Real and Very Cool

Thanks to the efforts of a group engineering students, this Porsche Boxster is now a stylish, practical shooting brake.

The shooting brake is a favorite vehicle of auto enthusiasts. It can be transformed from a sporty two-door coupe into a practical station wagon, depending on the circumstances. A group of students engineers created a Porsche Boxster shooting stop from a second-generation example. The result is stunning.

This 986 Boxster was discovered via The Drive and is Erik Groenendijk de Laat’s creation. He is a Fontys Hogeschool docent in automotive engineering. Fontys, a Dutch university, is where the instructor sought out Van Thull Development for help in designing and engineering the Boxster shooting brake.

Van Thull supervised four students – Dennis (Yori), Thom (Thom), and Bram – through the engineering and design process. It is notable that none of the students had experience in vehicle design or bodywork prior to starting the project. This makes the transformation even more remarkable.

Many parts required to convert the 986 into an small wagon are from vehicles already in existence. The front doors and windows are from the Porsche 911 Carrera 996, while the roofline and rear windows are from the Peugeot hatchback. The front end includes the headlamps, bumper and front bumper of the 997-generation Carrera. While the rear end features taillights from 991-gen Carrera. The side vents were also updated from a more recent Porsche, most likely a Boxster.

Van Thull Development will be making molds for the roof, rear structure and door sills. Owners of the Boxster 986 will be able to purchase a conversion kit, which could mean that there may be more compact and sporty Porsche wagons in the future. We are looking for an early Boxster S…
