The company only makes 30 and the price is high.
Retro design and modern technology are not new. A look at automotive engineering’s past shows beautiful examples such as the Lancia 037 by Kimera Automobili and the Opel Manta GSE ElektroMOD. The Elegend EL1 is the latest vehicle to combine classic styling with state-of the-art machinery. Elegend, a Bavaria-based company, is focused on “transferring analog primal instincts and emotional driving into digital and revolutionizing the market for esports cars.” Elegend’s first product is a combination of the original 1980s Audi rally car’s blunt styling with an all-wheel-drive electric motor that produces 805 horsepower (600 megawatts). With its boxy fender flares and openings at the tip, the EL1’s front looks very much like the Audi Sport Quattro. There is no B-pillar at the door. This creates ample space for the side windows. The roofline’s sharply angled rear section evokes the second-generation Audi Coupe.
The EL1’s powerful power can propel it to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 2.8 seconds. It also has a top speed of 158.4 mph (255 kph). We are currently only able to see renderings of the vehicle, so we will have to wait and see if it can achieve the claimed speeds. The EL1 has a 90 kilowatt hour battery which provides an estimated range for 248.5 miles (400 km) on a single charge. There is only enough juice to power two hard-charging laps around Nurburgring Nordschleife (25.85 miles/41.6 kilometers).
The EL1 is a monocoque made of carbon fiber that keeps the weight down to 3,704 lbs (1,680 kg). In 2022, a fully functioning prototype will be available. Elegend plans to produce 30 examples of the EL1. At current exchange rates, the price in Germany includes value-added taxes and is 890,000.
