Deliveries will start in the first quarter of next year.

Grand Design Partner and Volta Power Systems have collaborated to create this amazing towable recreational car. It will be made public at the SEMA event later in the week. The so-called Adventure Without Limits RV demonstration will be on display in Los Angeles. It features an 18-kWh energy storage unit that can power air conditioning, white goods, and other equipment without the need for an electrical connection.

A Ram 2500 truck is used to pull the example. It has a matching exterior combination. A secondary alternator of 9,000 watts powers the truck, charging a 40-kWh battery while it is in motion. The RV also has the ability to export power that can be used to charge a Tomcar TX4 electric scooter. The large, 2,250-watt solar panel is mounted on top of the RV. It can charge the battery and extend the runtime depending on how much energy is consumed. Jack Johnson, cofounder and CTO of Volta Power System, says, “This is the future off-grid adventure.” A unit such as this demo allows you to drive your 4×4 up and back all day and still have enough power for your AC to run when you return to your RV.

Grand Design will accept orders for the new Adventure Without Limits RV within the next few days. The first deliveries are scheduled for early next. A base model comes with 6-kWh of battery storage and 3,200 W AC power for lighting, entertainment and refrigeration. The 18-kWh storage option and 6,400 watts AC power will be available in the more expensive version. Grand Design claims that this model can run the air conditioner for several days depending on how much energy is consumed. Grand Design can work with aftermarket retrofit suppliers to install the upgraded alternator charging systems. An alternative option to an RV is to retrofit a charging system for electric toys.
