It could be called 408 Cross.
The Renault Arkana was possibly the first mainstream carmaker to release a coupe-SUV model. Peugeot’s all-new 4008 will soon be able to challenge the “poor man” BMW X4. We have spy photos that show some progress in the past few weeks and it is currently being developed. The 4008 ( name not confirmed) is closely mechanically related to 308-hatchback. It will be sold as an elegant and more expensive option to the 2008 or 3008. It will be a more stylish and expensive alternative to the 2008 and 3008. These spy photos reveal a plug-in hybrid prototype that has been tested with a production body, camouflage foil and a vehicle. Although the design of the wheels seems a little strange, it matches the overall styling very well. The roof of the test car has an interesting light. It’s probably connected to some kind of measuring equipment.
It was initially believed that the crossover would be named 4008, but spy photographers have reported that it could be changed to 408 Cross. Peugeot used the 4008 name for a small crossover a decade ago, but it was never a success on the market and was eventually discontinued. In turn, the 408 Cross name would place the model closer to its SUV range.
This new model, despite its name, will be available only with electrified engines. The coupe/SUV will share its platform with Opel Astra’s DS4 and Peugeot 308, allowing it to take advantage of the latest developments in the EV sector by French firm. It will likely be offered with a plug in hybrid powertrain that can produce up to 225 horsepower and front-wheel drive. It could have a WLTP-certified electric range that is approximately 37 miles (60 km) per charge. This new model took several months to go from testing as an mule , to using its production body to perform pre-production evaluations. The development should be complete by the end of the year.
