Here are some ways to modernize a timeless classic.
For the 2021 model year, the Mach1 moniker will be back on the Ford Mustang’s lineup. Sales are scheduled to start in the spring of next. This iconic badge added many visual elements to the Mustang GT, including round inlets on the grille and a variety of exterior graphics and decals. Ford created a special Mach 1 logo to reflect all the changes and connect the pony car to the 1969 model.
Dave Mahoney (Ford design manager) stated that the vintage Mach 1 logo was so iconic from a brand perspective, we couldn’t lose it. It was important to preserve the unique letters and outline. We made it more modern which is what the car looks like. It’s true. The modernized logo shows a clear throwback to 1969 Mach 1’s emblem: the smaller, lowercase “h” font. To make the logo more appropriate for the aggressive 2021 model, the font is bolder sans serif. We love how it’s simple and Ford’s design team has done a great job.
Ford chief designer Dean Carbis stated that a Mach 1 nameplate should be returned. However, it is important to highlight the legacy. We wanted it modern and yet reminiscent of the original. It was a great team effort. You can find the updated logo in many places on the 2021 Mustang Mach 1 These include the front and rear fenders, hood stripes, door sills and digital instrument cluster. A badge is also located on the dashboard that shows the vehicle’s identification number alongside the Mach 1 logo.
