Dual screens are not cutting-edge.
Subaru presented the 2022 WRX with a 11.6-inch portrait-oriented infotainment display that supported Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Bluetooth. This is not the system that every buyer will get. Alex shows that the entry-level unit has a dual-screen display, but it is far less impressive than the higher-end units. Two touchscreens are located on the top with media, radio and phone modes. The vehicle control and driving aid settings are located at the bottom. Between the buttons are physical buttons to access the radio, media and home as well as apps. On the left is a volume knob; on the right is a radio tuning knob. You can also adjust the cabin temperature or defroster. The large plastic bezels on the screen’s outside take up some space that the 11.6 inch system would. It’s not the most attractive or cutting-edge display, even by modern standards. It looks out of place in a performance-oriented vehicle.
Reddit user created an image that compared the dual-screen appearance to a Nintendo 2DS (below). This system isn’t unique to the WRX. This display is available on both the Outback as well as the Legacy base models. These screens are still valid for vehicles that are older than a few years. The double display looks terrible on the brand’s most venerable performance product. However, things could get worse. We found below images of the Subaru Levorg’s Japanese-market base infotainment system (below) while researching this story. Instead of having two screens, the lower screen is the only one. The design that covers the entire upper area is a huge chunk of plastic. It’s a disaster from a design standpoint.
