Trademark Filing Hints At Silverado High Desert Edition Pickup

General Motors applied for this trademark on December 8th, but it could not be approved.

GM Authority discovered a trademark application filed by General Motors for High Desert last week. Although this may not be very interesting by itself, the filing provides a detailed description of the “goods or services” associated with the name High Desert. The application outlines what could be a new High Desert version of the Chevrolet Silverado.

High Desert is described in the filing as an “option package to motor vehicles, specifically trucks”, and includes a sport bar with sail panel as well as lighted sidebox storage and hard tonneau covers. It appears that another version of the Silverado is already on the way. There’s more to it.

GM Authority explains that GM requested the High Desert name in 2014. However, the request was denied due to unknown reasons. Silverado enthusiasts know that the previous-generation pickup came with a High Desert package, which pretty much included the information in the new filing. This package was available for Silverados with LTZ trim (pictured below) and gave the truck an appearance similar to the old Chevy Avalanche.

However, it should be noted that the High Desert package was a package and not a trim level. GM had originally requested a High Desert trim that was similar to the High Country. However, the original application was rejected and it was relegated as a package with no badging. GM appears to be trying again to get the High Desert trademark. Is the second time the charm?

This information strongly suggests that a High Desert something will be coming to the Silverado within the next year. We’ll need to wait and see if it’s a new package or a full-blown trim.
