Dutch specialty marque Donkervoort A new flagship vehicle has been launched. It is called the D8 GTO–JD70 and was designed to celebrate Joop Donkervoort’s 70th birthday. Based on the D8 GTO The vehicle is equipped with many performance upgrades that make it capable of pulling more than 2G of lateral acceleration at corners even in standard trim.

Open-top supercar is powered by an Audi 2.5-liter inline five engine. It has been modified to produce 415 horsepower (309 Kilowatts) as well as 384 pound-feet (502 Newton-meters). Upgrades include a Euro 6D-Temp-conformable exhaust system that has been completely rebuilt. It also features a new catalyst system, new rev-matching software and a partnership with Bosch to allow for downshifts as well as full-throttle upshift modes. The engine’s five-cylinder capacity is coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential.

The suspension has been stiffened with anti-roll bars at every corner and three-way adjustable shock absorbers. Redesigned nose and new wheel design result in 176 lbs (80 kg) more downforce at the rear axle, and 110 lbs (50kg) more front downforce. Thanks to extensive carbon-fiber use and lighter batteries and seats made of carbon-fiber carbon-fiber, the car’s curb weight is less than 1,542 lbs (700 kg).

Donkervoort claims the D8 GTO–JD70 can be used on both roads and tracks and that it has avoided electronic assist systems to maximize the challenge, involvement and purity for its drivers. However, Donkervoort’s integration of a three-mode Traction Control System seems a bit surprising.

Donkervoort has already accepted orders for the new model. The production run will be limited to 70 units. Prices start at EUR163,636 (before taxes), which is approximately $182,000 at current exchange rates. Delivery will begin in spring 2020.
