Radford Type 622-2 John Player Special represents the highest point of the Radford Type 622-2 lineup. The revitalized coach-building organization has teamed with Lotus to create a limited number of hand-built Lotus drivers cars. Radford will unveil the Radford Type 62-2 John Player Special John Player Special to commemorate Lotus’s iconic John Player Special black-and-gold livery from the 1970s Formula One cars.
The Lotus Type 72D F1 car was introduced for the 1970 season. It saw great success, carrying Jochen Rindt into an F1 championship. After a collision at Monza, Jochen Rindt died leaving Emerson Fittipaldi as the final driver. Jochen Rindt was the only F1 world champion to be posthumously awarded this title due to their combined success.
The 1971 season saw the Lotus team struggle with changes, but they found their stride in 1972 when Imperial Tabaco joined forces with Lotus to promote their John Player Special cigarette brand. Emerson Fittipaldi was crowned the youngest F1 champion that year and the John Player Special livery became iconic.
Today’s Radford Type 62-2 John Player Special is celebrating this legendary livery by introducing its top-performing trim, the Radford 62-2. Only 12 Radford Type 62-2 John Player Specials will be made out of the 62 total production runs.
Radford Type 62-2 John Player Special features a 3.5-liter, 600 horsepower (47 Kilowatts), 3.5-liter engine. It includes upgraded connecting rods and pistons, as well as calibration and a larger, more powerful supercharger. You will also find larger Michelin Cup 2 carbon-ceramic AP Racing brakes Michelin Cup 2 wheels and revised bodywork.
