Ford must get the EcoSport back in America after it leaves.
Sedans are still popular in the United States and around the globe. The attractive sedan shown here won’t be available to American buyers because Ford decided to leave the segment. This is a shame, as small grille cars are very rare these days.
These Focus images are not official renderings and are based on Focus sedan spy shots. Nikita Chuiko, Kolesa.ru gives a glimpse into the future of the Blue Oval. She creates front and rear renderings using spy shots from the car to show a car that looks great from almost every angle. These renderings show a more aggressive lower fascia, which borrows heavily from the Focus ST. We don’t know if such treatment will befall the sedan, but we do know that a slight redesign of the headlights is on the horizon.
The rendering at the rear highlights smaller, redesigned taillights. A fictional update to the lower fascia is also available with trapezoid exhaust finishings on both sides. The makeover of this section is fictional as spy photos of the actual car reveal camouflage around taillights, but the fascia remains exposed and unchanged from the existing model. The renderings do not show the interior but sources say that we can expect a larger infotainment display and other minor changes.
Ford could bring the Focus back into the US market. We would have answered that question one month ago, but then we discovered that the EcoSport will be leaving the US market by 2022. Ford is now in an extremely precarious situation, with no cheaper, more fuel-efficient options available to buyers, except for the unproven Maverick pickup trucks. A base model hybrid will cost in the low $20,000 area and will be difficult to find in the wild.
The Escape, Ford’s cheapest vehicle that isn’t a truck, is now $25,555, before destination fees. Chevrolet also offers the Spark and Trailblazer, Equinox, Trax, Equinox and Malibu at the Escape’s starting cost. There are also Japanese and Korean automakers who continue to produce attractive hatchbacks and sedans at a low price, around $20,000 each. A modest Focus or Fiesta is almost required if Ford wants to attract cost-conscious entry-level car buyers.
